Professional Referrals.

Flexible outdoor mentoring, family support and alternative provision partnerships built around the needs of the young people, families and organisations you work with.

Services

Built around the individual.

01

1:1 Mentoring

For young people experiencing difficulties with school attendance, emotional regulation, confidence, engagement, behaviour, or SEN needs, we offer a flexible and personalised approach designed around the individual. With a wide variety of skills, experiences and venues available, our Mix and Match sessions focus on building the right package for each young person — rather than expecting them to fit into a set programme. Sessions can include woodland activities, practical projects, bike mechanics, outdoor cooking, confidence building, and support with routine and regulation.

Pricing

From £75 per hour

02

Family Support Sessions

Designed to help families slow down, reconnect and rebuild stronger relationships away from the pressure of everyday life. Working in outdoor environments, we create opportunities for families to improve communication, reduce conflict and enjoy healthier, more connected experiences together through shared activities, practical outdoor learning and meaningful time spent as a family. Qualified counselling support is available alongside mentoring where appropriate.

Pricing

From £350 per family

03

Alternative Provision Partnerships

Open Ground Dorset is not an alternative provision itself, but a flexible outdoor support and service provider that works closely alongside schools, alternative provisions, local authorities and existing organisations supporting young people. We believe in working shoulder to shoulder with others in the sector — complementing and strengthening the support already in place by providing additional outdoor learning, mentoring and engagement opportunities that allow existing provisions to expand capacity and offer more flexible support.

Our Approach

Meaningful change happens through shared experiences.

Our programmes use the outdoors, hands-on learning and individual interests to create opportunities for children, young people and families to experience success, build confidence, strengthen relationships and develop skills that transfer into everyday life.

Unlike traditional interventions that rely heavily on talking, our approach is experiential. We learn through doing.

Every session is designed with clear developmental outcomes whilst remaining engaging, enjoyable and participant-led.

What Makes Open Ground Different

Six principles that shape every session.

01

Interest-Led Engagement

We start with what matters to the individual — motorbikes, photography, cooking, woodland skills, creative projects — and use existing interests to create motivation and meaningful engagement.

02

Relationship Before Intervention

Real progress happens when people feel safe, understood and accepted. We prioritise trust, connection and authentic relationships before expecting change.

03

Learning Through Experience

Rather than sitting across a table discussing challenges, participants actively develop skills through practical experiences that naturally encourage growth.

04

Whole Family Focus

Many services work solely with the child. We recognise that sustainable change happens when families grow together.

05

Strength-Based Practice

We focus on what people can do, helping individuals identify strengths, celebrate successes and build confidence from positive experiences.

06

Genuine Achievement

Participants leave with more than memories — new skills, completed projects, increased confidence and tangible evidence of success.
